Holy Shab-e-Barat on February 25
The Muslims in Bangladesh will observe the holy Shab-e-Barat on the night of February 25 (Sunday) as the moon of the month Sha'aban was sighted in the country on Sunday evening.
The National Moon Sighting Committee decided this in a meeting at the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque this evening. Additional Secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry Awal Hawlader presided over the meeting.
Month Sha'aban will be counted from Monday, and accordingly, Shab-e-Barat would be observed on February 25, the meeting said.
In Bangladesh, on the day after the night of Shab-e-Barat is a public holiday.
Muslims believe that on the night of Shab e-Barat, Allah writes the destinies of all men for the coming year by taking into account the deeds committed by them in the past.
Muslim devotees will offer special prayers, recite from the Holy Qur'an and perform other religious rituals throughout the night of Shab e-Barat, hoping to receive divine blessings for the wellbeing of mankind.
