5 killed as covered van, auto-rickshaw collide in Cumilla

Five people were killed and two others injured after a covered van collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Cumilla on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred on Gouripur-Kachua road at Mohananda area in Daudkandi upazila around 10am. 

The deceased were identified as Jahanara Begum, 55, Pijus Mondol, 28, Md Shafiullah, 24, Ismail Hossain, 38 and Monir Hossain, 35. 

Quoting locals, Muzammel Haque, Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station, said a Kachua-bound covered van collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, leaving four people dead on the spot and three others injured in the morning. 

The fire service members and local people rescued the injured and admitted them to the upazila health complex where the doctors declared one of them dead. Later, the two injured people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment, the OC added.
