Three Ansarullah member remanded

A court here on Friday placed three suspected members of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, including its chief, on a seven-day remand in the blogger Avijit Roy murder case.

Those remanded are Abul Bashar, chief of Ansarullah Bangla Team, and its two members Julhas Biswas and Jafran Al Hasan.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Adnan passed the order after Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Fazlur Rahman, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before his court, seeking a 10-day remand.

They were shown arrested in the murder case filed with Shahbagh Police Station by Avijit’s father Ajoy Roy.

Earlier, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the three suspected Ansarullah Bangla Team members from the city’s Fakirerpool area on Thursday afternoon.

Avijit Roy, son of noted physicist Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University campus on February 26. -UNB
