63 more Myanmar troops take shelter in Bangladesh

The number of Myanmar troops taking refuge in Bangladesh has risen to 327 after 63 more border guards entered Bangladesh on Wednesday, fleeing heavy gunfights reported between the government troops and the rebels in the junta-run country.

The shelter seekers include members of Border Guard Police (BGP), army, police, immigration and civilian people.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said they disarmed them and took them to safety.

Md Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at BGB headquarters, confirmed the information.

He said a total of 327 Myanmar troops have so far taken refuge in Bangladesh. Of them, 63 have entered the country afresh. Next step is under process in this regard.

The BGB said patrols and check posts have been increased in border areas. No Rohingyas are not being allowed to enter Bangladesh.

However, BGB Director General Mohammad Ashrafuzzman Siddiqui visited the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Cox’s Bazar and told journalists that the border situation is completely under control of BGB.
