Bangladeshi among 2 killed in mortar shelling from Myanmar
A Bangladeshi woman and a Rohingya man were killed in mortar shelling from Myanmar side of the border at Jolpaitoli area under Ghumdhum Union Parishad in Naikhongchhari of Bandarban on Monday.
Of the deceased, one was identified as Hasina Begum, 52, wife of Badsha Miah.
Abdul Mannan, Officer-in-charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
However, 95 soldiers of Myanmar’s paramilitary Border Guard Police (BGP) took refuge in Bangladesh fleeing their posts amid reports of heavy gunfights between the government troops and the rebels in the junta-run country.
Earlier on Sunday, a man was injured by firing from the Myanmar side of the border in Tumbru area.
Six educational institutions were declared closed due to ongoing fighting in Myanmar along the Ghumdhum-Tumbru border of Naikkhangchhari upazila in the district.
