14 Myanmar BGP members take shelter at BGB camp in Bandarban

A total of fourteen members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar have fled and taken refuge in Bangladesh after being attacked by the insurgent group Arakan Army.

They took shelter at a camp of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Tombru area in Naikhongchhari of Bandarban on Sunday.

Locals said the fighting started between the Arakan Army and the BGP in Myanmar at 3:30am on Sunday which is still going on. During the fighting, a mortar shell fell on a house in Bangladesh’s Tumbru area. A man named Prabir was injured when he was returning his home. 

Anwar Hossain, a member of Ghumdum Union Parishad’s ward no 3, said one person was injured by firing from Myanmar. The firing is still going on.

He also said he heard that 14 members of Myanmar’s BGB entered through the Tambru border and took shelter at a camp of the BGB.
