Ex-DIG Prisons Bazlur Rashid denied bail in appeal

The Appellate Division of Supreme Court has denied bail to former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid who received a five-year jail sentence in a graft case.

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Justice Borhan Uddin passed the order on Monday.

Earlier on April 5 last year, the High Court bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal granted bail to him.

Later, a Chamber Court of the Appellate Division stayed the bail order till May 29 of the same year and sent it to the regular bench for hearing.

In continuation, a hearing was held today.

On October 23, 2022, a Dhaka court jailed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid for five years and fined Tk 5 lakh in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the charge of illegally amassing wealth worth Tk 3,14,35,902.
