Youth dies of Nipah virus in Manikganj

A young man has died after contracting Nipah virus in Manikganj.

Deceased Md Babul Hossain, 35, was the son of Main Uddin, former Union Parishad member and resident of Manta area under Putail union in Sadar upazila.

He died early Sunday while undergoing treatment at Popular Hospital in the capital Dhaka.

Putail UP chairman Md Mohidur Rahman said Babul fell sick around 15 days ago after drinking raw date juice.

He was first admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital and later, sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mohidur said.

Then, his relatives took him to Popular Hospital where he was diagnosed with Nipah virus, the UP chairman added.

Earlier on January 16, another youth named Md Lutfar Rahman, 27, son of Nazimuddin of the same area, died of the virus after drinking raw date juice.
