513 students commit suicide in 2023

At least 513 students committed suicide across Bangladesh in the last year, according to a survey by the non-governmental organization Aachol Foundation.

Of the 513, there were 227 school students, 140 college students, 98 university students and 48 madrasa students. Of them, 204 were male students and 309 were female students.

The findings of the survey were revealed at a press conference on Saturday.  

The organization collected information about student suicides from 105 national and local newspapers and online portals of the country.

In 2022, at least 532 students died by suicide, according to the foundation.
