Rajshahi ‘gunfight’ victim a JMB member

Police claimed on Wednesday that Nazrul Islam, who was killed in a gunfight with cops, in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’ on Tuesday was an active operator of banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh.

The deceased Nazrul Islam, of Panchagarh, was also involved directly in the incidents of murders of Rajshahi University English professor AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee, and Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi in Rangpur, police said.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ifte Khayer Alam confirmed the identity of the deceased and his other information to media through messages and emails today.

He was involved in all militant attacks carried out in the north Bengal regions, he said.

Nazrul was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police in Ashrafer More area of Rajshahi city early Tuesday.
