HC issues rule against illegal structures on highways

On Tuesday, the High Court (HC) issued a rule asking why authorities' inaction in removing local vehicles, haat-bazaar and other illegal structures from the country's highways to ensure the safe movement of citizens, will not be declared illegal.

An HC Division Bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice M. Atabullah passed the order.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and others concerned have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

On January 14, lawyer SM Badrul Islam filed the writ in the public interest.
