Dhaka rejects statement by 6 int'l organizations on election

Dhaka has strongly turned down the statement by six international organizations about the January 7 parliamentary elections, terming it partial and irrational.

The allegations raised in the joint statement are false and baseless as the international community and different countries hailed and welcomed the new government for holding a free, fair, credible and peaceful election. In this situation, calling for fresh polls is illogical and unacceptable, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday night.

Mentioning that the Election Commission (EC) held the polls fairly, the Foreign Ministry statement said voting day was peaceful and festive except sporadic incidents of violence in a few centers. International election observers and journalists who made reports going field expressed its authenticity in primary reaction.

Stating that the joint statement is confusing and one-sided, the Foreign Ministry handout said apparently, the statement has been issued to encourage the anti-democratic and election forces that tried to foil the election.
