Probe body formed over Karwan Bazar slum fire

A five-member committee has been formed to probe the fire incident in a slum in the capital Dhaka's Karwan Bazar area.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director (operations and maintenance) Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury will lead the committee, reports BSS.

Other committee members are - Dhaka Division Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director (Member Secretary) Md Saleh Uddin, Assistant Director (Member) Md Anwarul Haque, Deputy Assistant Director of Zone-1(Member) Md Tanharul Islam and Senior Station Officer of Tejgaon Fire Station (Member) Md Nazim Uddin Sarker.

Two people were killed and several others injured in the fire at Mollabari slum. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Anwarul Islam, the media cell official at Fire Service and Civil Defence, said 13 fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 3.40 am which broke out at about 2:25 am. 

Lieutenant Colonel Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director (operations and maintenance) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said they could not find out the actual cause behind the fire.
