Writ seeks Tk1 crore compensation over child Ayaan’s death

A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking compensation for the family of child Ayaan who died following a circumcision procedure conducted at United Medical College Hospital in the capital’s Badda.

Sypreme Court lawyer advocate ABM Shahjahan Akand Masum filed the writ in the public interest on Tuesday.

The writ also sought a proper investigation over the death of Ayaan.

On 31 December, Ayaan was circumcised under full anesthesia at United Medical College Hospital in Satarkul Badda, allegedly without parental consent. He was transferred to the hospital’s Gulshan branch from there as he did not regain consciousness a few hours post-operation.

After seven days of keeping him on life support in the pediatric intensive care unit, the doctors declared Ayaan dead early Sunday.

Ayaan’s family filed a written complaint with Badda Police Station over the matter.

However, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) formed a four-member committee to probe into the matter. The committee was asked to submit a report within ten working days.
