EC allows 186 foreigners to monitor polls

The Election Commission (EC) has allowed 186 foreign observers and journalists to monitor the upcoming 12th national parliamentary election. Among them, 127 are observers and 59 are journalists of different international media.

Several sources from the EC confirmed the matter to Jago News on Wednesday.

Earlier on December 28, the EC gave 20,773 local observers the approval to monitor the polls.

Some 517 local observers from 40 registered organizations will monitor the polls centrally. 

Besides, 20,256 observers of 84 local organizations have been approved to monitor the polls at the field level.

However, a dedicated reception lounge has been set up at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to receive foreign observers and journalists coming to Bangladesh ahead of the national election to be held on January 7.
