SC allows Alam, Babul to contest in the polls
An Appellate Division bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday passed two separate orders permitting Awami League candidate from Jashore-4 constituency Enamul Haque Babul and independent candidate Alam Ahmed for the Gazipur-4 constituency to participate in the National Election.
An apex court bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the orders.
The EC canceled Bablu and Alam's candidacies as their names were on the loan defaulter's list after applications were made by their opponents.
Babul, however, filed a writ that upheld the EC's decision. Later, he filed an appeal against the HC order.
On the other hand, Alam's writ was dismissed in the High Court and he appealed against it.
