Labour Law breach: Verdict against Dr Yunus on Jan 1

A court in Dhaka has fixed January 1 to deliver its verdict against Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus and three others in a case filed for allegedly breaching the Labour Law.

Judge Sheikh Merina Sultana of Dhaka Third Labour Court on Sunday set the date after arguments in the lawsuit ended today.

Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun represented Dr Yunus in the court today while senior lawyer Md Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the plaintiff.

On September 9, 2021, Labour Inspector Arifuzzaman of the Inspection for Factories and Establishments Department filed the case against four people, including Dr Yunus, in Dhaka Third Labour Court.

Other accused are Grameen Telecom Managing Director Md Ashraful Hasan, and Directors Nurzahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.

According to the case statement, the allegations against them include not submitting specific dividends to the Labour Welfare Foundation and regularizing the workers.
