President approves in principle to deploy army ahead of polls: EC secretary

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has approved in principle the deployment of army across the country to maintain law and order situation ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections.

However, the decision on when the armed forces will be deployed will be taken after discussion, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Zahangir Alam said on Sunday.

Earlier this morning, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal met President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in the capital Dhaka where he approved this in principle.
