4 killed in firing incidents in Rohingya camp

Four people were killed in separate incidents of firing at the Rohingya camp in Ukhyia of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as Joynal Uddin, 27, son of Kamal Uddin of camp-15, Abul Kashem, 30, son of Abul Bashar of camp-17, Imam Hossain, 30, son of Moni Ullah of camp-1 and Anwar Sadek, 17, son of Md Shafiq of camp-15.

According to local source, 30-40 men of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) locked in a gunfight centering establishing supremacy at G/3 block in camp-15 around 8pm. At that time, three people were killed. On information, a team of APBn police rushed to the spot while the members of two groups fled the scene.

However, 10-12 men of ARSA gunned down a man suspecting him as a member of RSO at C/77 block in camp-17.

Shamim Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said the bodies were recovered from the spots and will be sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsies.
