HC adjourns hearing on plea against polls schedule till Monday

The High Court (HC) on Sunday adjourned till Monday the hearing on a writ petition challenging the legality of the announcement of the schedule for the upcoming 12th national election.

An HC division bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah set the date after holding a primary hearing on the matter today.

Talking to BSS, petitioner Advocate Dr Eunus Ali Akond, who also moved the plea before the court, said the matter will come on the cause list for hearing tomorrow. Attorney General AM Amin Uddin stood for the state today.

Akond filed the plea on November 29, making the Chief Election Commissioner, the Law and Justice Division Secretary, the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary as respondents.

Earlier on November 28, Advocate Dr Eunus Ali Akond sent legal notices to the concerned officials, calling for deferring the election. As the notice got unheard, he filed the writ, challenging the legality of the polls schedule announced on November 15.
