Ex-Swechasebak League leader shot dead in Jhenaidah

Miscreants shot and hacked a former leader of Swechasebak League to death in Harinakunda upazila of Jhenaidah on Thursday night.

Deceased Shamim Hossain, 35, was former vice president of Harinakunda upazila unit Swechasebak League and son of Golam Rasul Nantu Mia, a resident of Gura village in the upazila.

Locals said miscreants hacked and shot Shamim in front of their home around 9:30 pm, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, he was rushed to Harinakunda Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, they added.

The facility doctor Zaminur Rashid said Shamin was brought dead hear and symptoms suggested he died of gunshot wounds.

Harinakunda Police Station officer in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said police were working to know the reasons behind the murder.

The district Awami League general secretary Saidul Karim Mintu said terrorists committed the killing to foil the upcoming parliamentary election.
