SC commutes life imprisonment of war criminal Shamsul
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has commuted the life imprisonment of Jamalpur war criminal Shamsul Haque alias Badar Bhai to 10 years in jail in a case filed for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan on Tuesday passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by Shamsul.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on July 18, 2016 found guilty eight leaders and activists of anti-liberation Al-Badr force and Peace Committee in Jamalpur and handed down death penalty to three of them and jail until death to the five others including Shamsul.
According to the case, Shamsul Haque was charged with crimes like murder, mass murder, detention, kidnapping, torture and robbery during the Liberation War.
