Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy arrested
The detectives have arrested Lieutenant General (retd) Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy in a case filed for alleged breach of trust by pretending to be someone else.
He was apprehended from Savar, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka.
Additional Commissioner and Chief of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Harun or Rashid confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier in a press conference this afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy will be arrested.
Statement of the case filed with Paltan Police Station, Dhaka said one Mian Arefi introduced himself as an advisor to US President Joe Biden to the media in the presence of Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy and BNP leader Ishraque Hossain at BNP's Nayapaltan central office on October 28 after the party suspended its grand rally there on the day.
Mian Arefi had told the media he made a recommendation to his government to impose a ban on Bangladesh Police, Home Ministry, and Law and Justice Division.
The plaintiff alleged Hasan Sarwardy and Ishraque helped him give the false statement and they instigated BNP leaders and activists to deterioration of the law and order situation by supporting his statement.
