East West Students protest VAT on pvt education
Students of East West University clashed with police and blockaded the Badda-Rampura road for about half-an-hour on Wednesday during a demonstration demanding removal of the recently imposed 7.5 percent VAT on tuition fees.
Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station said, police later successfully took control of the situation.
The government slapped 7.5 percent VAT for private universities in the latest budget. The decision drew widespread criticism among the students and guardians.
Several private university students have demonstrated against the move. The High Court has been moved against the government’s “discriminatory” action.
