Bhairab train accident: Families of deceased to get Tk1 lakh

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan has said Tk1 lakh will be given to each of the families of the victims, who were killed in the Bhairab train accident.

He said at a views exchange meeting with the journalists at Rail Bhaban in the capital on Thursday. 

The minister said a total of 20 people were killed and 35 others injured in the accident. Of the injured, 10 are still receiving treatment at different hospitals. The Railways ministry will bear the cost of their treatment until they are cured.

Nurul said those who are responsible for the train accident will be punished after the investigation.

He also said Railways ministry formed an investigation committee over the accident. The committee was asked to submit the report within seven working days. Three concerned people were also suspended.

It is mentionable that the accident occurred when a Chattogram-bound freight train collided head-on with the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express on October 23.
