By-polls to Patuakhali-1 on Nov 26

The by-election to the Patuakhali-1 constituency that fell vacant following the death of ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker Md Shahjahan Mia will be held on November 26.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam announced the schedule of the by-election at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

As per the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is November 1 while the date for scrutinising those is November 2 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is November 9.

This by-polls will be held with ballot papers.

Shahjahan Mia died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

The EC has a constitutional obligation to complete the by-polls within 90 days after it fell vacant.
