Cyclone Hamoon: Ctg, Payra ports asked to hoist danger signal no 7
Maritime ports of Chattogram and Payra have been advised to hoist danger signal no 7 while Cox’s bazar and Mongla ports have been asked to hoist danger signal no six and five respectively as Cyclonic storm ‘Hamoon’ has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay and adjoining area.
At 9am, the cyclone was 445 km west-south-west of Chattogram port, 410km west-south-west of Cox’s Bazar port, 325 km south-west of Mongla port, and 310 km south-west of Payra port, said a special bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday.
It is likely to move north-northeastward and intensify further to cross the Barishal-Chattogram port near Bhola between morning and noon on Wednesday.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 64km of the storm centre is about 90kmph, rising upto 110kmph, the BMD said.
The sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre.
Under the peripheral effect of the severe cyclone, heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty or squally wind may continue over north Bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, all fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice, said the special bulletin.
