No security threat during Durga Puja: DMP chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said there is no security threat during the Durga Puja ahead of the national elections. 

He said this while talking to reporters after inspecting the overall security arrangements at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital at 11:30am on Thursday.

He said all kinds of security measures have been taken on the occasion of Durga Puja. 

Dhaka Mohanagar Puja Udjapon Committee President Monindra Kumar Nath, General Secretary Romen Mondol and some DMP officials were, among others, present during this time.

The annual five-day Sharadiyo Durgotsab will begin with the unveiling of the face of the deity, Kalparambho, Adhibash and Abahon (invocation) on the day of Maha Shasthi on Friday.

The festival will end with the immersion of the idols of the Goddess Durga on Bijoya Dashami on October 24 (Tuesday) followed by Maha Saptami on October 21, Maha Ashtami on October 22 and Maha Nabami on October 23.
