Russian FM Lavrov to arrive in Dhaka today

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will reach Dhaka on Thursday afternoon on a two-day official visit before attending the G-20 Summit in India.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen is scheduled to receive him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. 

Lavrov will hold a bilateral meeting with Momen in the evening. 

He will also make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday.

During his visit to Dhaka, different issues including Russia-Ukraine war and Bangladesh’s next general election, may be discussed, the diplomatic source said.

He left Dhaka for India on Friday afternoon to attend the G-20 summit to be held in New Delhi on September 9-10.

Lavrov was scheduled to visit Bangladesh on November 23 last year to attend the 22nd IORA Council of Ministers meeting but the tour was called off.
