55kg gold missing from customs locker at HSIA, case filed
Around 55.51 kilograms of gold have been stolen from the volt of the customs transit go-down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka, officials said.
An FIR was lodged with the Airport Thana at 11:45pm on Sunday by Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, Assistant Customs Officer of the Preventive team of the Dhaka Customs, reports BSS.
According to the FIR, during patrolling on a regular basis, an airport official noticed the lock of a particular volt was broken, and immediately notified it to his senior officials around 9pm on Saturday.
On information, the joint Commissioner along with other customs officials visited the spot and identified that a part of the tin-made volt was cut with a sharp object.
The customs officials later identified that around 55.51 kilograms of gold seized in different drives conducted from 2020-2023 were missing from the volt.
OC Azizul Haqu Miah of the Airport Thana confirmed the matter to BSS saying that, "A case has been lodged in this regard and the police are currently interrogating a number of people, and investigating CCTV footages of the area."
