Mother gets death for murder of son in Chandpur

A court in Chandpur has sentenced two people, including a woman, to death and two others to life-term imprisonment for the murder of her son in Haimchar upazila.

The condemned convicts are Khuki Begum, 43, a resident of Masum Khan Bari in South Algi union in the upazila, and Md Joynal Gazi, 24, from West Larua village in Faridganj upazila, while the lifers are Yusuf Molla, 27, and Mahbub Molla, 26, of North Bishkatali village in Faridganj upazila.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (1) Farhana Yeasmin handed down the verdict on Wednesday.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each and in default, they will have to serve six months more in jail. 

The case statement said victim Md Arif Hossain, 25, had a conflict with his mother Khuki over her extra-marital relationship with Joynal.

Amid this, Arif developed a love relationship with Asma Akter, 19, daughter of Abdus Salam Miji, a resident of Miji Bari in North Algi union, at the beginning of 2015 and subsequently married her.

After the marriage, Khuki, Arif and Asma would often quarrel over different matters.

On November 18, 2015, Khuki along with Joynal and his associates beat up and hacked Arif to death.

Later, a murder case was filed with Haimchar Police Station in this connection.
