The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has summoned Dinajpur municipality mayor and BNP leader Syed Jahangir Alam for his derogatory remark about Justice M Enayetur Rahim.

A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique on Thursday passed the order following a petition filed by four lawyers seeking necessary directives.

The SC also directed Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman to immediately remove the video containing Jahangir’s comment from internet platforms.

Alam made the derogatory remark against the Justice at BNP’s programme on August 3. Later, four SC lawyers - Harun-or-Rashid, Mahfujur Rahman Roman, Md Moniruzzaman Rana and Shafiq Rayhan Shaon, filed a petition with the Appellate Division seeking necessary directives.
