A legal notice has been served seeking a ban on rallies and gatherings on working days in the capital Dhaka.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Nure Alam Uzzal sent the notice to Home Ministry Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), BNP, Awami League and five others.

The notice said the city dwellers face severe traffic jam when the political parties hold their programmes on working days in Dhaka.

In the notice, the political parties have been urged to hold their programmes on weekend days or government holidays.

Earlier on July 26, Khandker Golam Faruq, the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, warned that the police may be forced to impose restrictions on political programmes if they cause suffering to the people.
