Attack on Bernicat’s convoy: Further probe report on Sept 4

A Dhaka court has set September 4 for submitting report on further probe in a case lodged over alleged attack on the convoy of then US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat in August 2018.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jaki Al Farabi passed the order as the investigation agency detective branch (DB) of police failed to submit the report on Sunday.

The court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on January 1 had ordered DB for further investigation in the case and submit its report on January 30.

"An official, not below the rank of assistant police commissioner, has to conduct the further investigation," the court order had said.

December 27, 2022, was scheduled to record depositions of the witnesses in the case. Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu on that day pleaded for further investigation. Later, the court allowed the petition.

Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 10, 2018, for the alleged attack that took place on August 4, 2018.
