US wants to send pre-polls observers to Bangladesh in Oct

The United States ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas has said his country wants to send a pre-assessment election monitoring team to Bangladesh in October. The experts from National Democratic Institute and International Institute will be in this team. 

He said this after holding a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

Peter Haas said US wants to see a free, fair and neutral election in Bangladesh in which people can elect their representatives.

Earlier, the meeting started at 11:15am and ended at 12:40pm.

Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Md Ahsan Habib, EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam and Deputy Political and Economic Counselor of the US Embassy in Dhaka Arturo Hines were also present during this time. 

It is mentionable that, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal on Sunday said the national polls schedule will not be announced before October.
