5 to die for killing Juba League leader in Lakshmipur
A Lakshmipur court has sentenced five people to death and 14 others to life-term imprisonment in a case filed for killing a local Juba League leader at Purba Amani Lakshmipur village under Chandraganj union in Lakshmipur on Wednesday noon.
Lakshmipur Additional District and Session Judge Syeda Amina Farhin passed the order acquitting two others in the case on Wednesday noon.
The court also fined the life-term awardees Tk 20,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve one more year in jail.
Jasim Uddin, Public Prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
The death-row convicts are Md Modhu, Md Mamun, Babu alias Golakatha Babu, Md Shamim and Kawsar alias Choto Kawsar.
The life-term awardees are Jahangir Alam, Nehal, Md Borhan, Md Tuhin, Jakir Hossain, Sohrab Hossain, Bachir Ahmmed, Md Mizan, Alamgir Hossain, Kachir Ahmmed, Kamrul Islam, Anwar Hossain, Tareq Aziz Sujon and Md Tipon alias Jahangir Alam.
On May 18, 2015, Mamunur Rashid, Vice President of Chandraganj union unit Juba League, was shot dead by the convicts when he was returning to his home by a motorcycle.
Rashid’s brother Fakhrul Islam filed a case against 10 named and 14-15 unnamed people with Chandraganj Police Station on May 19.
Golam Hakkani, investigation officer ad sub inspector of Detective branch, submitted a charge sheet against 21 people to the court on September 10, 2016.
