Question leak: BUET Professor Nikhil among 16 indicted

A Dhaka tribunal on Monday framed charges against 16 people including BUET Professor Nikhil Ranjan Dhar in a case filed over the question paper leak of bank recruitment exams in November 2021.

The formal trial in the case has started with the charge framing.

The accused in the case are Raisul Islam alias Swapan, 36, Janata Bank officer Shamsul Haque alias Shyamal, 34, Abdullah Al Jaber, 34, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology’s (AUST) Technician Muktaruzzaman alias Royel, 26, peon Delwar Hossain, 31, Rabiul Awal, 41, Pervez Miah, 26, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 37, Mobin Uddin, 32, Mostafizur Rahman, 37, Sohel Rana, 35, Rashed Ahmed alias Bablu, 37, Jahangir Alam Jahid, 38, Robiul Islam alias Robi and Rupali Bank Senior Officer Jane Alam alias Milon, 32.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofajjal Hossain framed charges against them on Monday. 

Earlier on January 31, Shamim Ahmed, investigation officer of the case and Sub Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB), submitted a supplementary charge sheet to the court and the court received it on February 5.

The name of Prof Nikhil came up in Delowar’s confessional statements during investigation in the case filed with Badda Police Station under the Public Examinations (Offences) Act in November 2021.

A few days later, on November 21, Nikhil was relieved of the chairman post of BUET’s Industrial and Production Engineering department.

The bank examinations was held on November 6, 2021 under the supervision of AUST where Nikhil was a consultant.
