Eight get death for murder in Cox's Bazar
A court in Cox's Bazar has sentenced eight people to death for the murder of a man around 23 years ago.
The condemned convicts are Manzur Hossain, Muhammad Alam, Mulluk Kalu, Anwar Hossain alias Kaluinna, Jashim Uddin, Mostaq, Akter Kamal and Amir Hossain.
Judge Mosharraf Hossain of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4 of Cox's Bazar pronounced the verdict on Thursday.
The court's assistant public prosecutor advocate Shawkat Belal confirmed the matter.
Those who were acquitted are Wahid Murad, Didarul Alam Didar, Abul Kalam Barmaiya, Nur Mohammad, Riyad alias Delwar alias Dudhuiya, Shafiq alias Shafiqqa, Baktiar, Abdur Rahim and Shafi.
APP Shawkat said the house of Mohammad Hossain, a resident of Bachamiarghona area in Cox's Bazar district town, was stormed by robbers led by his son-in-law Manzur on June 15 of 2000.
They shot dead him and looted his house, Shawkat said.
Later, his wife Sabura Khatun filed a case against Manzur and 18-20 unknown people with Cox's Bazar Police Station in this connection.
