IU student torture: Antora among 5 expelled for 1 year

The authorities of Islamic University, Kushtia have expelled five female students including suspended BCL Vice President Sanjida Chowdhury Antora for one year over the torture of a fellow student at a dormitory.

The decision was taken at a meeting of disciplinary committee held at the university’s Vice Chancellor office on Saturday. 

The four other expelled students are Israt Jahan Meem (Law Department), Halima Akter Urmi (Fine Arts Department), Tabassum Islam and Muabia Jahan (Finance and Banking Department).

IU Proctor Professor Dr Shahadat Hossain Azad confirmed the matter to Jago News.

He said, based on the report of the investigation committee formed over the torture incident, five accused students were expelled for one year as per the university’s students’ code of conduct. 

Fulpori, a first year student of Finance and Banking department, was tortured and humiliated by IU unit of BCL leader Antora and her cohorts at Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall on the campus in Kushtia from 11 pm on February 11 to 3 am on February 12.

The five students were expelled from the hall on February 27 as the hall authorities found their involvement in the assault on Fulpori.
