Six get life for murder in Joypurhat

A court in Joypurhat has sentenced six people, including two brothers, to life-term imprisonment for the murder of a man.

The lifers are two brothers Abdul Kuddus 59, and Abdul Hannan, 56, Aminur Islam, 51, Anwar, 49, Dudu, 49, and Ghutu Alam, 44, residents Kadirpur village in Sadar upazila.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Judge Abbas Uddin pronounced the verdict on Thursday. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.

The court public prosecutor (PP) Nipendranath Mondal confirmed the matter.

The case statement said Abdul Alim, 62, a resident of Fakirpara village in the upazila, was found dead in a paddy field beside a pond in neighboring village Kadirpur on March 7 of 2009.

Later, his wife Moslema Begum filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
