Teacher, son killed as bus rams motorcycle

A primary school teacher and his minor son were killed as a bus rammed a motorcycle in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan Nayan, 45, a resident of Janipur village in Sadullapur upazila and assistant teacher at Chakbhagabanpur Government Primary School and his son Nahid Hasan, 8.

Locals said a bus of 'Unity Paribahan' hit Nayan's motorcycle in Matherbazar area on Gaibandha-Palashbari road around 10:45 am, leaving him dead on the spot and his son critically injured.

Later, he was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the matter, Palashbari Police Station officer in-charge Masud Rana said they seized the bus but its driver managed to flee.
