Three schoolgirls drown in pond

Three schoolgirls drowned in a pond in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Afsana Akter Maria, daughter of Rukan Uddin, a resident of Gandhabbbapur area in the upazila, Subarna Akter, daughter of Salam Mia of Durgapur upazila of Netrakona and Maria, daughter of Roman Mia of Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj.

They all were students of Horgaon Primary School and tenants of Akter Mia and Shoma Begum of Horgaon area in Rupganj upazila.

Local sources said three schoolgirls went to a pond to take a bath in Horgaon area and at one stage, they went to under water.

Later, locals rescued them and rushed them to local US Bangla Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

Bhulta Police Outpost inspector Mostafizur Rahman told Jago News the bodies of the deceased were recovered and the next legal measures are underway.
