Mithun gets award writing slogan for World Environment Day

Writer and journalist Mizanur Rahman Mithun has received an award for writing a slogan in a competition arranged by the Environment Department (DoE) on the occasion of World Environment Day 2023.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin MP handed over the award to him in a program in Dhaka on June 14. Cash money, crest and certificate were given as awards.

Additional Secretary Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik of the ministry, Director General of DoE Dr Abdul Hamid and its Additional Director General Kazi Abu Taher attended the prize-giving ceremony.

Expressing his feeling, Mithun said, "Everyone likes to be rewarded for his/her work and I am also happy to get this prize. Not only for the award but I wrote this slogan for Environment Day from my personal responsibility to the environment. Writing this slogan as a writer, I think I could join the movement to protect the environment. I hope awareness about environmental protection will increase among the country's people through my slogan." 

It is, however, noted that Mizanur Rahman Mithun achieved first place in National Poem Competition organized by Bangladesh Betar on the 15 August National Mourning Day in 1998. Since then, he mainly began writing. He secured a chance to take part in the third batch of the Bangla Academy Young Writer Training Course 2011. He obtained 'Chhotoder Mela' award for his first book 'Je Bhootta Boi Porte Eshechhilo'.

He received an award from Public Libraries Department under Cultural Affairs Ministry at the national level for writing an essay on National Mourning Day in 2015.

Mizanur Rahman Mithun has been selected as a 'supplementary learning material' story writer on disaster management for students from Class III to Class XII of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). Earlier, his book 'Natun Soptashcharja' was included in the syllabus of Class V and VI at Kindergarten. He regularly writes in national dailies and magazines on various topics.
