Voting in Sylhet, Rajshahi city polls end; counting begins

The counting of votes began in Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) and Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) elections on Wednesday.

The counting began after the voting came to an end at 4pm.

In SCC polls, Awami League-backed candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury along with family members cast his vote at Shahjalal Jameya Kamil Madrasa centre in the city’s Pathantula at 8am.   

The other mayoral candidates are Jatiya Party’s Nazrul Islam, Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Mahmudul Hasan, Jaker Party’s Johirul Alam and individual candidates Abdul Hanif, Salah Uddin Rimon, Shah Jahan Miah and Moshtaq Ahmed Rawf Mostofa. 

In RCC polls, Awami League-backed candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton along with his family members cast his vote at Upashahar Town Satellite High School centre at 9am.

He also talked to journalists there expecting above 60 percent vote cast in the election.

The other mayoral candidates are Jatiya Party candidate Saiful Islam Swapan, Jaker Party’s Latif Anwar and Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Murshid Alam.
