DIG Mizan jailed for 14 years for amassing illegal wealth

A court in Dhaka has sentenced suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman to 14 years in jail in a case filed for amassing illegal wealth.

Judge Monjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 passed the order on Wednesday. 

Mizan’s wife Sohelia Anar Ratna, brother Mahbubur Rahman and nephew and police sub-inspector Mahmudul Hasan were also sentenced to 7 years in jail in the same case.

The court issued an arrest warrant against Sohelia as she is absconding. 

Mizan is in jail and his brother and nephew are on bail in the case. 

Earlier on July 1, 2020 police took Mizan into custody after High Court scrapped his plea for anticipatory bail in the case. The court on July 2 scrapped a bail plea of Mizan and sent him to jail in the case.

On June 24, 2019, ACC Director Monjur Morshed filed the case against them for concealing information about wealth of Taka 3.7 crore and amassing illegal wealth of Taka 3.28 crore.

On February 23, 2022, Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 sentenced Mizan to three years imprisonment and eight years to suspended ACC director Khandaker Enamul Bachir in a graft case.
