Average life expectancy in Bangladesh rises to 72.4 years

The average life expectancy of Bangladesh’s people climbed to 72.4 years in 2022 from 72.3 in 2021, according to the national statistical agency.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) unveiled its Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics Report-2022 at its office in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday, where Planning Minister M A Mannan was present as the chief guest.

BBS said, the average life span of men increased to 70.8 years in 2022 from 70.6 in 2021. Women’s life expectancy also rose by one month to 74.2 years.

State Minister for Planning Affairs Dr Shamsul Alam and Statistics and Information Management Division Secretary Dr Shahnaz Arefin were also present as special guests.

Md Alamgir Hossain, Project Director of the study, presented the key note paper.

Porimol Chandra Basu, Director General of the BBS, presided over the programme.
