World Environment Day today
The World Environment Day 2022 is being celebrated in the country as elsewhere around the world on Monday with a view to creating awareness about environmental pollution.
This year's theme of the day is 'Solutions to Plastic Pollution'.
Different government and non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as educational institutions have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on Sunday on the occasion of the day, wishing success of all programmes of the day.
"The Environment Fair will be held at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from June 5 to 11, while the Tree Fair 2023 will continue from June 5 to June 26 and July 1 to July 12 next. The fairs will remain open from 9 am to 8 pm every day," Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Sunday told a press conference at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room at the Secretariat.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media are airing special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
Marking the day, special supplements from the Department of Environment (DoE) and the Department of Forests have been published in the national newspapers. Besides, the World Environment Day is being celebrated with due importance at district and upazila levels.
Programmes have been organised in 100 educational institutions of Dhaka city. Children's drawing competition, debate competition and slogan competition have also been arranged.
Seminars and discussions on environmental issues and environmental awareness campaigns will also be held.
