Youth shot dead in Ukhiya Rohingya camp

A young man was shot dead and another injured by the miscreants in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Md Redwan, 25, son of Hasu Mia, a resident of 119 No. Shelter under Block No. F6 of Shafiullah Kata Rohingya camp.

Armed Police Battalion-8 (APBn) captain additional deputy inspector general (ADIG) Syed Harunur Rashid said 10-12 miscreants opened fire on two Rohingya men at Shafiullah Kata Rohingya camp around 4:30 am.

Being informed, a team of APBn went to the spot, and sensing their presence, the miscreants fled the scene, he said.

Later, they rescued two bullet-hit injured Rohingyas from the spot and took them to local MSF Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared one dead.

Ukhiya Police Station officer in-charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said the bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.

However, more than 50 shootings and many clashes took place in Rohingya camps in the last six months over establishing supremacy that left around 40-45 people dead.
