8 get death penalty for killing BCL leader in Lakshmipur
A court in Lakshmipur has sentenced eight people to death in a case filed for killing BCL leader Mehedi Hasan Jasim.
Judge Amina Farhin of Lakshmipur Additional District and Sessions Judges Court passed the order around 11:30am on Monday.
The death-row convicts are Ali Hossain Bachchu, 43, Mostofa, 43, Khokon, 48, Abul Hossain, 68, Mobarak Ulla, 61, Kabir Hossain Ripon, 26, Jafar Ahmmed, 61 and Hizbur Rahman Swapon, 40.
Jasim Uddin, Public Prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said, police submitted a charge sheet against 12 people to the court in the case. Four of them died during the trial proceedings. Seven convicts were present in the court at the time of the verdict while another convict Swapon is on the run.
Mehedi Hasan, son of Mofij Ulla of Sreerampur village under Duttapara union in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila, was killed over a land dispute on February 10, 2013.
On the next day, his father filed a murder case accusing 12 named people and 10-12 unnamed people.
On March 27, 2014, the investigation officer of the case and the then Sub Inspector of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station, submitted a charge sheet to the court.
