A court in Dhaka has sentenced five people to death for the murder of new bride Monira Parvin in the capital in 2013 over dowry.

The condemned convicts are Monira's Husband Nasir Hossain's brother Masud, sister Hasina, her husband Milon, his brother Delwar Hossain and Nasir's uncle Din Islam.

Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 Judge Mafroza Parvin handed down the verdict on Thursday.

The court also acquitted the victim's husband Nasir from the charges as he was found not guilty.

The case statement said Nasir, a resident of Khilkhet Police Station area in the capital, married Monira in a Kazi Office (marriage registrar) on June 18 of 2013.

His family members seriously injured her by beating up her with cricket stumps soon after he along with her went home and left her at a nearby field. 

Later, locals took the victim to Ashiyan Medical College Hospital, Khilkhet and then, she was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital following her condition deteriorated where she succumbed to her injuries on June 22 of the same year.

On the day of her death, Monira's father Mostafa filed a case with Khilkhet Police Station in this connection.
